Support Your Immunity

Having a low immune system and catching things like a cold is very common across us all, don’t you think? But there are ways of strengthening our systems to try and stop us feeling under the weather.

Being deficient in many vitamins is one of the causes of having a weak immune system. There is an increase in research suggesting that not having enough vitamin D could be a big factor in contributing to having a low immune system. Through England, nearly every person in England is deficient in vitamin D, a hormone that is important for the nervous and immune system.

It’s a common trait between us all that we don’t particularly want to get out of bed early in the morning to start a day’s work, right? We would love to be able to stay in bed for another hour or two, all of us at BestLyfe certainly would! Not having enough sleep cannot not only leave us feeling tired but it can also lead to us not having a strong immune system.

There are ways of making our immune systems stronger, preventing us from getting poorly and generally improving our wellbeing! If you feel that your immune system is low, why not try taking an immunity boosting supplement? BestLyfe have put together a bundle including Iron, Vitamin C, Vitamin D and Zinc. The aim of this bundle is to act as an antioxidant, promoting healing and supporting our energy levels aswell as safeguarding our immune health. It was found from a study that was conducted in 2013 that ‘Zinc administered within 24 hours of onset symptoms, the duration of the symptoms reduces’.

Another way of boosting out immune levels is to take a good quality Probiotic for 2-4 months everyday – weaknesses of the immune system and autoimmune diseases correlate to being deficient of probiotic bacteria in the gut.

Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant which helps to maintain a strong immune system, protecting it against any damage that may occur. A 2013 researcher maintains that, ‘Vitamin C is an essential factor on the anti-viral immune responses through the production of interferon at the initial stage of the influenza virus infection’. In order to prevent flu and reduce its symptoms, combining all of 4 of our vitamins and supplements is recommended for better results – this is one of the reasons we have carefully selected essential vitamins and supplements to combine together in our bundles.

We all like to go out for a coffee with a friend for a catchup during the week and order our favourite hot drink with a slice of cake to go along side. However, it is recommended that we don’t drink too many caffeinated products as this can weaken our immune health.

Like we mentioned earlier, we all like to stay in bed for as long as we can. Although some would view it that we are being lazy, and we could do so much more with our day if we got up early every day. Although this is true, it is also beneficial for our health if we stay in bed for as long as we can, by that we mean going to sleep as early as possible. It is recommended that we have at least seven or eight house of sleep per day, equating between 49 to 56 hours per week.

If taking supplements every day is something that you struggle with, why not try an alternative which could have the same benefit for the days you miss. We suggest making a curried squash, lentil and coconut soup. This recipe is quick simple meal made in minutes, we can almost guarantee that this will be family favourite in no time!

All you need is :

  • 1tbsp olive oil
  • 1 butternut squash, peeled, deseeded and diced
  • 200g carrot, diced
  • 1 tbsp curry power containing turmeric
  • 100g red lentil
  • 700ml low-sodium vegetable stock
  • 1 can reduced-fat coconut milk
  • Coriander and naan bread to serve

It’s very simple to make, anyone can have a go! All you need to do is:

Step 1: Heat the oil in a large saucepan, add the squash and carrots, sizzle for 1 min, then stir in the curry powder and cook for 1 min more. Tip in the lentils, the vegetable stock and coconut milk and give everything a good stir. Bring to the boil, then turn the heat down and simmer for 15-18 mins until everything is tender.

Step 2: Using a hand blender or in a food processor, blitz until as smooth as you like. Season and serve scattered with roughly chopped coriander and some naan bread alongside.

This recipe plus a long walk in the fresh air is a personal favourite of ours, it can be one of yours two. We suggest dedicating at least 1 hour a day to exercise; not only will this increase our immune system, it will also help us to lose though extra pounds that have crept up on us (especially over lockdown).

So, go out and have fun and get your mojo back!
