Understanding Neck Pain
Neck Pain is common and is a symptom which can have many causes. We have all slept awkwardly or sat incorrectly at our desk and ended up with a stiff neck or neck pain. Being stressed or anxious can sometimes lead your muscles to become tense, causing shoulder and neck pain. There is often no obvious cause of the pain and most neck pain will clear up by itself within a few days.

Other times there may be a specific cause of neck pain. One of the more common is whiplash, a neck injury caused by a sudden movement of the head in any direction. This damages the tendons and ligaments in the neck. Other causes of neck pain could include a twisted or locked neck (corticollis) where you are unable to move your neck, a type of arthritis (cervical spondylosis) or a trapped nerve.
If your pain persists for more than a few days or you have severe neck pain which you can't manage using ordinary painkillers, then you may want to visit your doctor. They will be able to check for anything more serious.
