Scars & Blemishes
Products for Scars & Blemishes
Many people have scars and blemishes on their skin. Sometimes, people find these marks and scars embarrassing. At Tower Health we offer some solutions to help minimise the appearance of and eliminate skin blemishes.
Scars are marks that are formed when the skin heals following a wound. They are part of the natural healing process. When there has been damage to the skin and tissue is cut or torn, the body uses collagen to heal the damage. Collagen is a protein, and it builds up in the place where there is skin damage, to strengthen and heal the wound. The blood flow to the area is also increased, so the scar is usually red and raised. Over time, generally after a couple of months, the blood flow falls again and scars tend to become paler and fade.
There are different types and levels of scarring. For minor, light wounds, scars can completely disappear. However, more severe wounds can cause permanent scarring. There are also different types of scars:
Fine-line scars: Usually caused by a cut or wound, fine-line scars will start off red and raised and gradually fade and become flatter.
Scar contractures: If scars result from a burn, the damaged skin tissue tends to shrink, meaning that skin feels tight and can restrict movement.
Pitted scars: Pitted scars are often the result of skin problems such as acne or illnesses like chickenpox. They are a small ingress in the skin which occurs due to the loss of the underlying skin fat.
Keloid and hypertrophic scars: With these types of scars, there is excess collagen growth, so the scars continue growing even after the wound has healed.
Stretch marks: These are thin lines that appear on the skin, beginning as red and slowly fading to silvery white over time. They are caused by the deeper layer of the skin, the dermis, tears. This is usually caused by hormones or rapid growth/weight gain.
Although scars may take time to fade away, or may never fully fade away, there are things that can be done to improve and minimise the appearance of scars and stretch marks. Bio-Oil is a specialist skincare product that is used to treat scars, stretch marks, uneven tone, ageing skin and dehydrated skin. It contains PurCellin oil, which is easily absorbed and highly moisturising. It improves the appearance of scars and stretch marks, whether old or new, as well as helping to prevent new stretch marks forming. It also provides fantastic moisturising effects and helps to reduce the appearance of other blemishes.
