Electric Therapy for Pain Relief

PainGone is a modern device based on a therapy that has been used for centuries.

Electricity has been used throughout history to give relief from pain. As long ago as 3000 BC ancient Egyptians used the electric discharge from the Nile catfish to treat painful conditions. Fishing scenes depicted on the walls of certain Egyptian tombs are probably the earliest man made records of this, as they clearly show the Nile catfish, described as giving a powerful stunning shock, being caught.

By AD 46 Roman physicians were using the electrical powers of fish, notably the torpedo mamorate fish, in clinical medicine as a cure for headaches and gout. This is the first written use of electric stimulation and it was said that for any type of gout, a live black torpedo fish should, when the pain began, be placed under the foot until the foot and leg up to the knee were numb. To keep the fish alive the patient had to stand on a moist shore washed by the sea. For headaches a live torpedo fish was placed on the head until the pain ceased. Apparently the fish did not survive as it is recorded that several torpedoes of the same kind should be prepared because the cure is sometimes effective only after two or three treatments. (Source: Compositiones Medicae)

Indian physicians are reported to have used electric fish for ailments caused by excessive heat and many physicians, until the end of the Renaissance, continued to cite recipes for the torpedo and its ilk.

From this primitive method of applying relief directly to the point of pain a device was developed in 1745 that could actually store and supply electricity for the precise treatment of pain.

The use of electrical fish as shocking machines in Europe was written about up to the 1850’s and English Doctors, that had great faith in the therapy, encouraged applying electricity to the body to cure ailments such as migraine, joint pain and melancholy, etc. long before the first journals on the subject appeared.

Continual studies on pain relief using electrical therapy led to a number of devices being developed to bring about healing by applying electrical stimulation to the brain.

There have been many proposals to explain how electrical stimulation achieves pain relief and it may be that all are correct; individuals achieve pain relief through different methods. A popular proposal in 1965 was the gate control theory. This explained that the transmission of pain travelled up the spinal cord and suggested there was a gate on the cord which acts as an on/off switch for pain transmission. By controlling this gate through electric stimulation the gate could be switched off stopping the pain message reaching the brain. Other proposals that are valid include altering, through electrical stimulation, the natural chemicals such as endorphins that affect how pain is perceived and transmitted.

PainGone was developed so that maximum relief could be achieved by applying electrical stimulation in a quick and simple way, even through light clothing, direct to the point of pain. (Thus allowing torpedo fish to carry on living in peace).

John Wesley, the leader of the 18th century Methodist reformation, was a staunch advocate of electrical therapy for “angina pectoris, bruising, cold feet, gravel in the kidneys, headaches, hysterics and memory loss, pain in the toe, sciatica, pleuritic pain, stomach pain, palpitations and so on.” He ended his book ‘The Desideratum’ with the following “Before I would conclude I would beg one thing…. It is, that none would condemn they not know what: That they would hear the cause, before they pass sentence: That they would not peremptorily pronounce against electricity while they know little or nothing about it. Rather let every candid man take a little pains to understand the question before he determines it. Let him for two or three weeks (at least) try it himself in the above named disorders. And then his own senses will show him, whether it is a mere plaything, or the noblest medicine yet known in the world” (Wesley 1759).

In other words Wesley makes a plea for those who would be sceptical to try it (the PainGone) for two to three weeks before deciding whether or not it is effective. We feel the same and that is why we give a no quibble money back guarantee of a full refund if the PainGone does not live up to its claims.

What our customers say

Clinical trials under strict guidelines and careful evaluation studies are only part of the reason for the runaway success of the PainGone pen. The experience and word of mouth of our thousands of satisfied users, who have enjoyed a remarkable improvement in their quality of life, prove the beneficial effects of PainGone, a product they feel lives up to its name.

Below are just a few of the many positive comments we have received and they continue to rise in number as more and more discover the change PainGone can bring to their lives:

Arthritis in the hips
“At first I used the pen four or five times a day, but now I only need to use it twice, once in the morning and again at night. I am partially disabled and so I am sure you understand that any pain makes moving around that much harder and so I can’t thank PainGone enough”. J.P.Foskett

Sciatica
“I am 45 and have suffered with chronic sciatic pain for 7 years. I have had chiropractic treatment, physio’, osteo’ and most recently, under the direction of a sports injury specialist in Harley St, injection of steroids directly into my spine, Nothing has worked! Yet in the one week since receiving the PainGone I already note an extreme reduction in the pain, which although still present, definitely seems to be diminishing a little more each day.” Greg

Osteoarthritis in the knees & hips
“This is my second PainGone. My other one I have had for two years and have got a lot of relief when, in the night, I have a lot of pain in my knees and feet due to osteoarthritis. I was afraid my other one was running out after two years. I would not like to be without it, it is so handy to take out of my handbag too should I need to use it.” V.Syrett

Back pain
“It seems unbelievable that the pain I normally suffer, has been lessened. I have suffered pain in my lower back and legs for years”. C. Sawyley

Chronic pain, general aches & pains and spondylosis
“I would like to share with readers how pleased I am with the results of my PainGone. I have had cervical spondylosis since 1993 and I am in continual pain. The great advantage of the PainGone is that I can use it without help and it gives immediate benefits within minutes, I would recommend PainGone to anyone who suffers from continued chronic pain or for other users such as sports injuries and general aches and pains.” From Arthritis Research Campaign website

Spinal arthritis & tennis elbow
“Amongst other things, I suffer from osteoarthritis of the whole of my spine, and even though I have been taking a high dosage of anti-inflammatory drugs, plus eight strong pain killers a day, I am never out of pain. I was sent information about your PAINGONE PEN. I mentioned it to my Doctor and he said “Its worth a try.” It certainly was! I ordered one and from the start it gave me relief from the pain. I am able to manage now on at least half my pain killers, less on a good day, by using the pen instead. I have to use it in several places along each side of my spine each time for best results. A few friends have shown interest themselves. One in particular used my pen on her tennis elbow and after days of pain had immediate relief for the rest of the evening and night. I will certainly be passing on the results and information to my doctor as I am sure many others would benefit from the use of this pen. Thank you Tower Health. Oblate Marian Thomas S.S.C. / Consecrated

Clinical evidence

Approved by the Medical Profession
Yes, many NHS Hospitals and many GP’s use PainGone in their Pain Clinics and recommend it to their patients as a safe, drug free therapy. NHS Hospitals throughout England, Scotland and Wales have carried out independent trials and evaluations prior to stocking and recommending PainGone. It is a product that lives up to its name. PainGone effectiveness has been clinically confirmed, as independent tests show, it stops or relieves pain quickly in up to 87% of cases on which it is used, which makes it a reliable alternative to medication.

Clinically proven to relieve pain
Successful clinical studies have been carried out on patients suffering from different types of chronic pain associated with different types of illnesses, such as: arthrosis of the knee, tennis elbow, chronic back pain, musculoskeletal pain (that is shoulder, knee, elbow, low back pain), cocydynia, cervical spondylosis, trigger point syndrome pain, spinal pain, lower or upper limb pain, fibromyalgia, arthrosis of the fingers and frozen shoulder.

Arthrosis - Clinical Test 1
Treatment of Arthrosis of the Knee by Dr Ole Asbjorn, GP, MD. A conclusion reached was that “PainGone seems to have an effect which is on the same level as drugs. PainGone can therefore be an alternative pain killing treatment to patients waiting for an operation.”

Tennis Elbow - Clinical Test 2
Treatment of Acute Tennis Elbow by Dr Ole Asbjorn, GP, MD. In this study Dr Asbjorn concluded that “76% of the patients had effects ranging from good to excellent pain relief” and that “PainGone is effective as a painkiller and is a good supplement to other treatments. In the trial no side effects were observed at all.”

Sciatica - Clinical Test 3
Dr Med. Bernt Fesers study carried out tests on people suffering from spine syndromes, elbow pain, sciatica, knee arthrosis, phantom-limb pain, plantar tendiose. “The percentage of patients experiencing temporary or continuous pain relief after the use of PainGone ranged from 50% to 86.7%.”

Knee & Cervical Spondylosis Clinical Test 4
Dr T.I.S., Consultant Aneasthetist and Dr D.H., SpR Anaesthetics, in a hospital in Wales, has evaluated the use of the device PainGone pain killing pen in alleviating chronic muscoloskeletal pain by self treatment (shoulder, knee, elbow, lower back, cervical spondylosis, trigger point syndrome pain.) “PainGone pain killing pen is a safe, easy to use, medication free pain controlling device which can be used for self-treatment.”

Arthritis - Clinical Test 5
Dr Reka Puskas, October 2004, Rheumatologist in a Hospital in Budapest, conducted the most recent clinical study: “We have established the effectiveness of using PainGone, it is an effective device for chronic pain suffering patients and, thus, a potent supplementary treatment device for locomotor disease. Because it is handy and easy to use, it can contribute to an improvement in the quality of life for patients who respond well to treatment.”

Medical Studies - Clinical Test 6
The most recent UK study, in the north of England, on patients suffering from back pain, has shown “significant reduction in pain at rest, on movement and improved mobility”. The Doctor in charge reported that “The results have been encouraging and have demonstrated that the pen has beneficial effects in reducing pain and increasing overall mobility. Many of our patients have been really pleased with the results and in several cases we have witnessed a dramatic life altering change”. The report continues “the use of PainGone resulted in significant reduction in pain, increase in mobility and reduction in daily analgesic consumption.”

Lower Back Pain
10th World Congress of Pain – San Diego October 2002 – The conclusion of the Abstract, drafted after the pilot study in England, was presented to the Conference on Pain “The use of PainGone pen in this pilot study resulted in significant reduction in pain, increase in mobility and reduction in daily analgesic consumption”.

The folly of youth
I give the above unconditional guarantee because PainGone worked for my knee pain where all else failed. My right knee was badly damaged in several incidents: aged 17 in a football match, twisted violently in a skiing incident when I ran out of ‘skill’ and torn ligaments playing squash. The ultimate indignity was to fall down a flight of steps and break my progress by using my knee against a wall at the bottom.

A fortunate discovery
Then I discovered PainGone and gradually, within a short time, I became pain free during the day but I was being troubled at night in bed. With PainGone on my bedside table I was able to reach out, treat my knee through the duvet and return it without disturbance. Now the pain has gone for good. With no batteries and no degradable parts I know it will stay as fresh as the day I put it away. PainGone is not a cure and should never be thought of as such but, as a pain relief device many elderly patients tell us they prefer it to taking tablet painkillers which often cause stomach and digestion upsets.

It happened in Denmark
Yet its story all began in Denmark in the hands of a very clever engineer, Mr Preben Nodskov. Mr Nodskov did not fully appreciate the difficulty experienced by his wife who was suffering from arthritis, but his daughter did. It was at her insistence that her father began to consider a drug free way of relieving his wife of her pain. He knew, as medical science readily admits, that a cure for her steadily deteriorating condition was not possible but he felt relief was attainable. This was the start of the development that eventually led to what press reports have hailed as the miracle pen to write off pain. Mr Nodskov’s engineering skill, aided by the advice from good friends in the Medical Profession, helped him to succeed in bringing relief from constant pain for his wife. His discovery, improved and refined from his first prototype, has also helped thousands upon thousands of sufferers worldwide; and not only for back pain but also for all forms of physical debilitating pain. From migraine to chronic arthritis, sufferers have written to praise the day they “took a chance” and bought the pen.

All summed up in 9 words
And yet for me, amongst all the praise that I have seen from Doctors and sufferers who gratefully write to sing PainGone’s praises, the “miracle” of PainGone was summed up when one day I opened a small envelope and out fell a small scrap of yellow note-paper that had been torn from a larger page. It had been posted to us with no address or even a customer number, just signed in a shaky hand from “Mrs Williams” The simple message that she wrote described what PainGone had meant to her. Her message said “Thank Heaven for PainGone, please send me another”.

I don’t know the story behind the gesture but those few words seemed to speak volumes.
