Indian physicians are reported to have used electric fish for ailments caused by excessive heat and many physicians, until the end of the Renaissance, continued to cite recipes for the torpedo and its ilk.

From this primitive method of applying relief directly to the point of pain a device was developed in 1745 that could actually store and supply electricity for the precise treatment of pain.

The folly of youth
